Do You Have PASS?
Post Abortion Stress Syndrome
Post-Abortion Stress Syndrome (PASS) is a real thing because abortion is traumatic for a lot of women. PASS describes the psychological aftereffect of an abortion experience.
Although PASS is not officially accepted by the APA, anything that causes trauma, can cause PTSD. And abortion is no different.
One in four women will have had an abortion by the age of 45. The secret of a past abortion is a burden that many women carry alone for years or sometimes, even their entire life. But that doesn't have to be your story. There is hope. There is healing.
Symptoms of PASS may include:
- Guilt or shame
- Anger
- Depression
- Grief
- Anxiety
- Numbness
- Suicidal thoughts
- Difficulty bonding with subsequent children
- Unable to talk about your abortion(s)
- Fear you won’t be able to have any more children
- Avoid physical reminders such as babies, pregnant women, or the baby aisle in the store
